It’s not as contagious as u think, I think it’s more direct contact (touching someone or their bodily fluids) than droplet like Covid was

It is seen as an outbreak as it is typically eradicated so any number of cases above 1 is cause for concern, like if one person got the bubonic plague it would be an outbreak, not a pandemic until it hits multiple countries/continents. Pandemic literally means pertaining to all people and it is not yet at the place where it will impact everyone. Sorry for the rant lol

Well not exactly since the 1000-2000 people get the plague per year and 150000-200000 people get hantavirus per year

It’s about 7 in the US, I knew it was low but not how low and I was using it as an example for the difference between an outbreak (higher than normal case load for anyone wondering) vs epidemic. This strain of hantavirus is more rare and the concern stems from it being on a cruise ship where people are in close contact for extended periods of time increasing risk of infection for those on the ship but it’s not really something to worry about for the rest of us unless ur a vampire or something

I meant pandemic oops, also trying to calm the masses. Ur risk of getting it is probably lower than HIV seeing they are spread in similar ways and one is less common
