Im currently facing academic dismissal from the College of Science. I had a rough semester due to a death in the family and severe financial/physical abuse at home. I’ve already successfully appealed my FAFSA but the school says I have to take the sem off

I can’t go home tho bc my home is abusive, I’ve had cps called on me etc, I’m currently staying with a friend since I live far away but that isn't a longterm solution. I’m doing everything I can right now to stay on track (working, saving money, taking a summer class, and seeing a therapist). My advisor is speaking to her supervisor on Monday, but I’m scared asf that it won’t be enough. Is there anyone else I should reach out to, is there hope for me?
I am planning on emailing the dean tonight with a lot of proof so hopefully that helps! Thank you for your advice :)
might be best to try to schedule something with your dean or department head to explain your situation? sorry bro good luck
This made me cry. Thank you for such kind words. I will look into this ASAP and I’m sincerely hoping I’ll see better days, thank you for your advice :)
Thank you for asking to specify, I mean it was called on my household, and that the guardians I was dependent on withheld money including for groceries, for months at a time while also cancelling my meal plans, and using finances as any attempt they could to control me and resigned from my job at some point on my behalf because they wanted me dependent on them entirely. Now I have run away, I’m crashing friends to friends and I have a job now, but this was last sem when i performed poorly
I’m wondering if you can do something with the disability access services. Potentially for psychological impact (PTSD, anxiety, depression) to start an accommodation process. The counselors really go at lengths to help with accommodations and fighting for you for the university’s policies on equal opportunity. In that case to a certain extent they are required by law to accommodate you. I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Your determination and perseverance is extremely admirable.
Thank you for your advice! I think I’m going to email them tonight with pictures and all of the evidence I can give them and hopefully they will accept me back 🥲🥲
Hope it all gets better man. Promise u even though it looks like it’s the end trust me it’s not. Wish u the best of luck. Also I think they give you a chance to appeal the decision. I was in academic probation first sem and they tell you u can appeal the decision. Theres a form you submit then you meet with the head of the committee. Good luck
Thank you, do you think I can frame an academic dismissal as a medical leave or ask that they negotiate it to that?
How can you have CPS ‘called on you’ if you are the victim? Also what is financial abuse? Are you not 18+ years old? Just trying to understand a little better
email the dean, your academic advisor, professors you talk to, anyone pleading your case! i went thru a similar thing at my old school and in cos as well but if you need some help let me know, there is people are who believe and r willing to support you!!! keep going no matter how long it takes to finish your degree
i also have difficult circumstances and am in the college of science. i’ve had to take three medical leaves (currently on the third one). they didn’t wanna give me accommodations at first but then they did. they took away my merit scholarship and now they gave it back. there’s a lot of back and forth with them unfortunately but it’s 100% worth it to keep pursuing these issues and fighting for yourself. you’re paying $$$$$ to go here and so the least they can do is meet u where ur at. good luck!!
