Why are we shocked that crime happens in a major city. Northeastern is in the middle of Boston IN ROXBURY. this isn’t michigan 😭

It’s not that we don’t expect crime, but that transparent notifications will be sent from the school so that we can make personal safety decisions in real time.

i fully agree the school is doing nothing to help the students especially those students who aren’t used to crime where they come from !

this is even more of a reason why NUPD should be getting their shit together. for the marino stabbing they took two hours to tell us and they hadn’t even made an arrest. we have yet to receive a notification about the drive by

let's be real this area of boston hasn't been considered any less safe than the rest of boston for at least a decade. it's not shocking to see crime in a major city but it is shocking to see it all happen within a week on one campus and have our police department not tell us anything

i fully agree but we don’t own all of roxbury, roxbury became “less dangerous” once northeastern started buying everything but it’s still roxbury at the end of the day. most of the situations occurred around the northeastern campus

btw what happened last night was in fenway not roxbury and northeastern area is still a city so it will be unsafe for sure but the perceived threats went down once northeastern gentrified it doesn’t mean it went away & i’m echoing people above but the worst part is that northeastern is not doing their part to protect the community and keep them informed especially when things happen next to campus or in front of dorms

1. our campus isnt rly in roxbury (02118 or 02119), mostly in fenway-kenmore (02115) or BARELY roxbury crossing/mission hill (02120) 2. roxbury crossing/mission hill is gentrified roxbury. i’ve felt more unsafe in downtown boston than i do on campus or in roxbury itself. 3. were in a city ffs carry pepper spray and be aware of your surroundings. boston has one of the lowest crime rates of any american city, like this type of thing always makes the news😭 - someone who used to live in roxbury
